Perioperative bleeding is a determinant of postoperative morbidity and mortality. In cooperation with the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine, the Clinical Institute of Medical and Chemical Laboratory Diagnostics and the Otto Loewi Research Center, the Perioperative Platelet Function research unit is dedicated to predictors of perioperative bleeding. Clinical and experimental trials focus on dual antiplatelet therapy and potential interventions involving the interaction between platelets, fibrinogen and factor XIII.
